We advise you never to make payments in the following cases:

  • the landlord does not agree to show the property physically

If a potential landlord is hesitant to give you a tour of the rental, you should be especially careful before proceeding with any further steps.

  • the landlord does not agree to sign a lease

Do not make a payment if the landlord is not willing to return a signed lease in exchange and insists on an oral agreement solely.

Here are a few useful pieces of advice:

  • Avoid paying in cash (we can't say this enough!)

  • Always insist on signing a lease

  • Verify documents that prove the landlord's ownership of the property

  • Carefully read the lease before signing
